ECU Upgrade

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is the brain of your engine. It controls the fuel-air mixture, idle speeds, valve timing, and a variety of other functions inside your engine. Doing an ECU upgrade is perhaps one of the easiest ways to squeeze out more torque and horsepower from your engine and can even be calibrated to get better gas mileage.

Ensuring a proper ECU upgrade is of vital importance. If you do the wrong upgrade, your engine can suffer from power loss, poor fuel efficiency and even complete engine failure. Some things to consider are what stage your vehicle is already tuned to and whether or not you have stock or aftermarket turbos, downpipes and intercoolers. Once you’ve factored all these things in, you can choose the proper ECU upgrade.

Upgrading your ECU means reprogramming the computer inside your engine. You can do this yourself through software, a pre-programmed programming module, or you can choose to buy a new ECU that’s already been pre-programmed for better performance. Be prepared to pay a core charge if you don’t want to send your old ECU in to be programmed.
