The OEM plastic Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve does not hold pressure well, even when brand new. This means that when you are in boost conditions, the highly pressurized PCV valve leaks charged air back into the crankcase. Depending on the condition of your PCV valve, this can range from irritating to dangerous. Additionally, if your valve cover is cracked, loose, or has a bad gasket, you are likely experiencing a pressure leak either internally or externally, as well as potential oil loss issues.
