

Timing chain guides are a weak spot in the otherwise bulletproof M62. Common symptoms of worn guides can include excessive vibration or “slap” from the timing chain, and abrasive plastic particles in the oil. Symptoms typically begin to surface between 80,000 and 100,000 miles. If left untouched, worn guides let the timing chain jump out of time, leaving you with a potentially damaged head and larger repair costs.
