Better shifting - physics 101: Typically when one sets out to design a short shift kit for a specific vehicle they look to find a fulcrum point within the shift linkage that can be altered to reduce the input distance called for to change gears. This basic modification while reducing shift throw increases the inertia of the shift linkage resulting in a disconnected unbalanced feeling from the transmission thru the shift lever making gear selection more difficult. The solution is to reduce the mass of the shift linkage at a rate roughly equal to the shift throw reduction preserving the systems inertia. The ECS Short Shift kit for 02M 6 Speed Audi/VW transmissions is user adjustable for both shift throw and inertia balance. Shift distance is adjustable to 49% 28% 7% or 0% of stock and inertia can be controlled with the use a 7 piece weight set. The exact feel and balance of your shift setup is left to you. Install all the weights and reduce the shift throw to %49 and you’ll have a system that creates lighting fast gear changes with minimal effort but finding neutral could be difficult in city traffic. We recommend that all users adjust the system to their personal taste. Adjustments can be made without removing the shifter from the car simply installing or remove weights as desired. (temporarily removing the air box will speed shifter adjustments)
